SENATOR JUDITH ZAFFIRINI ON THE ISSUES

The Environment

Senator Judith Zaffirini’s unwavering commitment to protecting our natural resources makes her a leading voice in the Texas Senate for addressing the climate crisis. She has passed, for example, more than 50 bills related to water, wastewater, radioactive waste, medical waste, industrial waste, municipal solid waste, underwater oil spills, power plant air pollution, river and aquifer protection, parks, recycling, white-tail deer management, the Rio Grande, and pollution and water quality issues in colonias.

What’s more, responding to constituent requests, she regularly prevails upon the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and other agencies to hold public meetings regarding permits for proposed landfill, wastewater projects, or pipelines.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Economic Development, Senator Zaffirini will champion incentives that promote alternative energy sources, especially wind and solar, manufacturing of electric vehicles, and recycling. She also will continue to use her role as Chair of the Eagle Ford Shale Legislative Caucus to advocate for sensible regulations that adequately balance economic development with environmental concerns and preserve air and water quality.
