Senator Zaffirini Announces Funding for Starr County Improvements

(AUSTIN) —Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, announced today (Friday) that
Starr County will receive a $420,000 grant from the Texas Community Development
Block Grant Program (TxCDBG). The grant will allow Starr County to contract for
the reconstruction of approximately 11,612 feet of roadway to improve access for
139 households in and around Rio Grande City, Roma and Escobares.

Roadway improvements will occur on Elizabeth Street, Garcia Lane, Pio Avenue,
Barrera Road, Tulip Street, Placido Road, LaPrima Street, José Lopez Street,
Nicolas Lopez Street, José María Chapa Street, Cenica Street and New Gonzales
Street.

“The Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) was established to administer
these funds and to provide these critical services to local communities,” Senator
Zaffirini said. “I am delighted that Starr County will benefit from enhanced
roadways, thereby improving greatly access and safety for Starr County
constituents.”

TxCDBG is administered by ORCA for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development.
